Who Owns Buick?

You’ve probably seen dealerships across Buffalo and beyond referred to as ‘Buick GMC.’ That’s because Buick is owned by GM (General Motors). They also own GMC, Cadillac, and Chevrolet, so you’ll often notice similarities in terms of everything from warranties to infotainment setups when you compare models from those manufacturers.

What is Buick’s History?

The Buick legacy itself now stretches back more than 110 years, and its journey is intertwined with that of GM. Buick began production way back in 1903, when the automotive industry was just taking shape. It incorporated and moved from Detroit to Flint, MI, and it was there that the first Buick was produced, the Buick Model B.

A good thing clearly caught on fast – by 1923, Buick would make its one-millionth vehicle.

Over that period, Buick’s investor-turned-owner William C. Durant made it the best-selling brand in the country and went on to found GM in 1908. His goal was to bring together a set of brands that would appeal to every economic group in the United States.

Buick was selected as one of GM’s top-tier brands, and Blasdell drivers already know that remains true today.

As the years passed, iconic models like the Buick Roadmaster, Buick Special, Buick Super, Buick Regal, Buick Riviera, and Buick LeSabre all hit the road to become successful models in their own right. Today, popular Buick models include:

  • Encore
  • Encore GX
  • Envision
  • Enclave
  • Enclave Avenir
